Going green is something we can all relate to today! We are all striving to become more green in our daily lives. Whether we are trying to use other means of getting to work, trying our best to conserve energy, or overall just making our lives more green - everyone seems to be putting forth an effort to be more eco conscious.
There are now television shows that are dedicated to showing you how to become more eco conscious. In fact one entire series was devoted to creating a green home. The HGTV network just hosted a semi-reality based television program on how you can make your own green home.
After the program was over, they raffled it off! It was such a huge success! They had millions of viewers enter to win this completely environmentally conscious home. Not only could one lucky viewer win the house, but the entire season they were fixated on showing the world how they could create a green home of their own.
And they stressed that even though the choices that you are making to invent your very own green home, still should be altered enough to make it your own. Being green works with every personal taste. One of the HGTV designers takes us step by step through her though process behind this year's green home.
When working on your kitchen, think about things that you know will not end up in some landfill. You should start by looking for cabinets that are made with sustainable wood such as eucalyptus or bamboo.
Even better you could try your luck with finding salvaged or recycled wood. Not only can you get your cabinets recycled, but all the hardware your kitchen may need can also be found recycled. The designers for this green home all had luck in finding recycled materials, and were a huge hit nation wide. The same rules apply for bathrooms! Try to go green! Try looking for water-saving fixtures. Some companies now sell shower heads and toilets that have regulated the amount of water and stronger air pressure. This in turn will let your overall water usage go down, and thus you are being green without sacrificing any of the usual bathroom amenities.
In the rest of your house, make wise choices when it comes to wood. Yes, its lovely to look at, but did you know it takes over 500 years to grow an oak tree. Try the alternative, bamboo and eucalyptus are just as durable and grow quickly enough to replace whatever you used.
As for other furniture purchases in your home, anything antique is green. So when you are ready to buy a bed or other furniture, including rugs, consider purchasing antiques, or slightly used items.
By doing so, you are decreasing the demand of commercially made items, therefore you are making the choice to go green! When it comes to painting there are very few companies now that are not making paints that aren't "green". One entire company located in South California are making efforts to provide homeowners with green home options. This company sells "green-only" products, and they tell you what the best way to go about applying the paint is. So easy for the everyday consumer, all you have to do is go out and look! Be a green home smart shopper, and you will be well on your way to having your very own green home.
Contrary to popular Kermit the Frog Wisdom, being green is easy. and having your very own green home is even easier.
